Screpante claimed Borges was dating one of Lavezzi's pals when their relationship began, stating, "He lied to his friend in the face."

Following the island getaway, the couple reportedly received threats via Instagram accounts. Alleged blackmailers demanded 4,000 pounds per video or image to prevent publication of private content. Lavezzi, who earned 10 million pounds annually playing for Hebei China Fortune in the Chinese Super League, instructed lawyers to address the extortion attempt. The former forward has been married twice and has a son from his first marriage.
